2 Town Hall & Opera House
The Town Hall, dedicated in 1888, was the scene of elections, school events, home talent plays, traveling medicine shoes and dances. The was the town focal point for family entertainment. The Lapeer County Press and Democrat reported in November 1898; “Beware of the hypnotist show. It is fake. They engaged the Town Hall for a week and only showed three nights because they could not get a crowd. They had to leave the Hoard House because they could not pay their board….They came near to being drummed out of town Saturday night.”

As years passed, the building began to fall into disrepair. The Hall was sided and fake brick was put on the front as it was cheaper than repointing the original brickwork. In 1979, the Metamora Historical Society was formed with the intention of dedicating itself to the preservation of the history of Metamora Township. They undertook the huge task of restoring the Hall to its former splendor. The siding and fake brick were removed and the original brick was sandblasted, repointed and sealed. The restoration work is almost complete and today serves as headquarters for the Metamora Historical Society.
